My name is Mrs. Peggy Griffith and I have been doing what I love the most in life for almost 30 yrs. I taught 2nd, 4th, and 5th grades in Newton, Texas for 10 years where I started my career. I knew teaching was what I wanted to do when I began substituting at all grade levels while my daughters were young. These years captured my love of learning, of discovery new and better ways to interact with students, and the understanding of parent’s concerns for their child’s education. For 3 of those years I was the school Librarian which I loved very much. This certainly hooked me into reading which is what I specialized in during my collage days at Stephen F. Austin University, in Nacogdoches, Tx. I received my Bachelor’s Degree as a reading specialist with a minor in science. Anyone that knows me knows how much I love teaching science.
This is my 19th year at South Cameron High School. I’ve taught 3rd grade, along with 4th and 5th grade throughout my teaching career here at S.C.H.S. I have taught all subjects, but enjoy English Language Arts and science the most. For the last 5 years I have been a Teacher Leader for ELA to Cameron Parish, which gives me great opportunities to bring new teaching styles and programs back to Cameron Parish to implement into our programs. I also am the elementary representative for our PBIS program where we accentuate the positive role models of our school and promote better testing scores with many incentives.
My goal this year is to encompass our culture and environment through reading and bring it to a level where students understand what they have right here in their own backyards. This precious area we live in is so amazing and full of many wonders of science and nature to explore and learn from. Rockefeller Refuge is my go to place for field trips because of the opportunities of truly learning what our environment has to offer us and jobs our youth can attain. This level of education can be accomplished through analyzing and evaluating the reading of many novels, articles, and weekly writing that our class will dive into during our year. Fun and education goes hand in hand…with life connections we will grow to our highest potential while we live and learn at SCHS.
