My name is Rachel Touchstone. I am originally from New Orleans. I attended LSU in Baton Rouge from 2001-2006. I graduated from LSU in 2006 with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. I am certified to teach any grade from 1-8. During my senior year at LSU, Hurricane Katrina destroyed my home and many of my family members' homes. I was uncertain of what to do after I graduated. Eventually, I moved to Lake Charles in August of 2006, accepting a second grade position at Kaufman Elementary in Calcasieu Parish. I taught second grade for one year, and then moved up to third grade. I taught third grade for nine years! I hesitantly moved up to fourth grade last year, and fell in love! I am on a new adventure this year, moving to a new school, a new district, and new grade level! I was at Kaufman for eleven years, and it was extremely difficult to leave my work family. I am looking forward to a fantastic future in Cameron Parish at South Cameron High School.
I have been married to my husband, Aaron, since October of 2010. He works for Union Pacific Railroad. We have one daughter, Haley, who will be coming with me to SCHS. She is 4 years old, and she will be in pre-k this year. We are both very excited to be the newest Tarpons!
When I'm at home I love relaxing and spending time with my family. I am admittedly a very big nerd! I love to read, do puzzles, and Sudoku. I love fishing in our pond, and swimming in our subdivision pool. I am extremely outgoing and can be very silly at times. I have always said that I was born to teach because I'm a child at heart. I'm very laid back and I am a people-person. I usually get along with everyone. During the fall, I'll be cheering for my LSU Tigers and New Orleans Saints (and of course the McNeese Cowboys). Then in the spring my TV is stuck on LSU Baseball. I also love to watch UFC! I probably know more about the UFC than most men. One of my favorite hobbies is going to the movies! I'll even go by myself if I have to. My husband and I love going on cruises! I've been on six cruises, my husband has been on five, and we have taken Haley with us on two cruises so far! We are hooked.
I feel very blessed to be starting my journey at South Cameron! I'm looking forward to meeting everyone and making a lot of memories with my new school family. I think that my daughter and I are going to fit right in at SCHS. Go Tarpons!
